Frequently asked questions

What is a biopsy?

A biopsy is a technique where a piece of tissue is surgically removed for microscope examination. Besides confirming a cancer, the biopsy also provides information about the type of cancer, the stage it has reached, the aggressiveness of the cancer and the extent of its spread. Since a biopsy provides the most accurate analysis, it is considered the gold standard of diagnostic tests.

Why do I need to create an account on biopsy.me to get a second opinion?

Your biopsy.me account is the center for communication with you. Through this account, you will receive progress notifications and your final biopsy review report.

Who can apply for a second opinion on biopsy.me?

You can apply for a second opinion from almost anywhere in the world. Due to local regulatory restrictions, there are a few countries where biopsy.me cannot provide its services (US, Canada, Belgium).

You can apply for a second opinion in your own name or on behalf of another patient, and more specifically in the capacity of a parent/guidian of a minor, a administrator of a person (defined by court order), a representative of a patient (as per written mandate) or any other representative of the patient if that patient is unable to exercise his/her rights and you have a statement confirming you are acting as the patient's representative.

How much will it cost me to get an online review of my biopsy?

The price of a biopsy review is 575 EUR. This includes the access of our platform, transport fees, sample reception, scanning, storage of the scanned images on the server and remuneration of the expert pathologist(s). It also includes all taxes (like VAT).

Can I get a report of my biopsy review in any language I want?

The common language of our international team of pathologists is English. You will receive our report in English. We are currently working on offering a translation service to other languages as well.

Will I be able to understand what is written in the review report?

The content of our reports inevitably contains specialist medical language. We strongly advise you to have the report sent to your treating doctor or otherwise discuss the results with a qualified physician.

How long does it take to receive a report?

We use our best effort to get you a final report in the shortest delay possible. We commit ourselves to answer you within 72 hours (starting from the moment we receive your biopsy from the hospital/instituion where it was taken). We will inform you of every step taken in the process by updating the status of the request in your 'My Account' area.
